Private residence with views on the Flemish dunes.
Our proposal to transform a former heritage brewery into secondary school includes clever use of the existing potentially rich space.
The design is based on the learning environment of the future. The building aspires to bring people together and act as a catalyst for change and development by opening up towards its surroundings with respect for future developments and the current identity of an ever-evolving campus.
We are proposing a new creative incubator, an unconventional office space with a maximum focus on atmosphere, flexibility, ease of use and efficiency. We translate Leiedal's sustainable philosophy into this hybrid entity that is inviting and adaptive. A dynamic and timeless platform where the user is central and where green and building form a symbiosis within a sustainable philosophy.
OYO were approached to collaborate on a PPS development in Dendermonde’s city centre. The project would provide residential, commercial and public spaces, but a central challenge involved designing a structure that wouldn’t contribute to the city’s ongoing battle with congestion on its main street… We had to ask ourselves, how could we create a new landmark space that was useful to residents, without further burdening the city’s infrastructure?
As part of a competitive pitch, OYO was invited to design a large residential block for Wibier St Amandsberg (the assisted living complex for elderly people). We won the competition not by designing a building, but by designing ways to combat loneliness.
When considering where to position a new sports hall in Ledeberg, we asked ourselves how could we maximise the use of space in such a densely populated part of the city? How could we create a sports hall without encroaching on (much needed) parking and green spaces that existed in the neighbourhood? These questions led us to a solution designed to turn wasteland beneath a highway into a vision for youth sport, whilst also enabling the creation of a general sports hall that wouldn’t encroach on parking space.
How do you create a future proof corporate HQ for hundreds of employees, a car park AND a new green space on a fairly modest plot of land? In 2018 OYO won the pitch (and a BREEAM EXCELLENT accreditation) by asking and answering this question for Agristo, one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of potato products in the world.
This family house is the result of a close collaboration between client and architect. OYO was given carte blanche, which opened the possibility to focus on an ecological and compact building from the start.
The SoLi House starts from a transformation of an existing semi-attached house from the 1960s, characterized by a classic Flemish context with 2 floors, and pitched roofs. The design process focused on addressing the context and optimizing the use of three free facades maximizing the relation with the dunes.
